I had two brilliant God appointments on my holiday.
In the big open-air fish market where catch of the day is taken and gutted and prepared for selling to restaurants etc, I met a woman washing the fish. I asked her how did she get the smell out of her hands. She said she poured neat bleach on them, rubbed them hard, rinsed, then did the same thing with washing up liquid, then another lot of bleach rubbed in again! I was horrified and told her that in England we can get a stainless steel bar that removes smells.
When I got in the car I said to my daughter, “ Oh no I should have said that I would send her one of those stainless steel bars.”
My daughter said that she would drive me back to the market. As I got out of the car and walked to where the woman was I felt an idiot, as I thought that she would probably think that I was a weirdo.
The woman’s name was Elizabeth. I asked her for her address so that I could send the bar to her. She wanted to know how she could pay me ...I said it’s a gift ....just thank Jesus. She asked if I was a Christian. She said that she doesn’t believe anymore because she had prayed for a baby but hadn’t been able to conceive.
I asked her if I could pray for her. I told her that there was also someone in the bible called Elizabeth who wanted a baby. Her prayer was eventually answered. I laid hands on Elizabeth and ministered the love of Jesus to her and asked Jesus to open her womb and make her fruitful. Also that she would trust Him again and that He would reveal Himself to her. As I was praying for Elizabeth she had a little cry.
Halfway home I realised that I had read about Elizabeth, Zachariah and the angels prophecy that very morning, but when I was talking to Elizabeth in the market I didn’t remember that fact at all!
This so blessed me as I felt Jesus showing me that he would make these appointments again in the future. Also that in some way He was going to bless Elizabeth.
Later in the afternoon, I got chatting to a young guy on the beach who hired out various boats. He seemed very mixed up spiritually. I told him Elizabeth’s story and how I had laid hands on her and how later I realised what I had been reading in the bible that morning. I also gave him the shortened version of my testimony of when I first knew Jesus and how he had started to heal me.
He said that as I was telling him the two stories he had goosebumps come over his body!
He said he wouldn’t forget the stories because they were real things that really happened and not just someone’s ideas or beliefs about God.
What happened that day was a real highlight of my holiday.
I may never know what happened to the two people I met that day. All that God ever asks of us is that we be willing and available. It is not up to me what happens next in either of these two people’s lives.
I realised I could have so easily missed this opportunity as it would have been very easy not to return to the fish market to get Elizabeth’s address .... because I felt an idiot...and I didn’t want to appear to be a weirdo.
This sort of thing doesn’t happen to me often, I wish it did...maybe I don’t ask Jesus ....anywayI do hope I get another opportunity soon.
